ZiluSi Temple
Zilusi Temple is located at the turn of Zilingshan Mountain, 3km to the southwest of Hongcun in City of Huangshan, which is highly praised as "the Chinese village in picture" with its breathtaking scenery of mountains and water. Firstly built in A.D. 843 (the third year of Huichang Period of Tang Dynasty), the temple used to be an influential Zen temple in the history with massive buildings. It is recorded that Lingyinsi Temple in Hangzhou of Song Dynasty was its very imitation. During the Yuan (In A.D.1319, Master Shaofu collected alms for the rehabilitation) and Ming Dynasty(In A.D.1391, the Zilusi Temple was merged with the Guang’ansi Temple and then rebuilt), the temple was renewed and rebuilt for several times. It was destroyed due to the wars in the Qing Dynasty and the Cultural Revolution. In order to satisfy the needs of the Buddhists and extend the Buddhist culture, the temple was rebuilt with an 80 million RMB investment from Beijing Zhongkun Group, under the consent of the Provincial Bureau of Religions in Anhui in August, 2003. The reconstruction project began in August, 2005, and Master Mingzhuang is invited as the Great Master for the renewed Zilusi Temple after finished by the end of 2008. According to Buddhism theory, the spot of the original Zilusi Temple was an ideal place for setting up a temple.
The renewed temple contains three sections: The religious life section, the meditation section and the academy section. The projects in the first period has almost been finished, including the Main Gate, the Grand Hall, the Halls of Buddhas and Bohdisttvas, The Hall of Ancient Masters, the Hall of Great Master, the Drum and Bell Tower, the Hall of Meditation, the Library of Sutras, the Arhats Tower, etc. The whole buildings cover more than 11780㎡.
The new Zilusi temple aims to be built into an international Buddhism and Meditation center which provides meditation instruction and guidance to the general public and Buddhists, help them relieve the stress and anxiety through inner peace, and thereby reach the real life of pleasure and delight and in turn make positive contribution to the whole society.
